Handicap accessible lifeguard stations: Where would we be without government to mandate things like this? ...... CLEARWATER — Clearwater Beach's lifeguards are in great shape. Most were competitive swimmers in college. They routinely swim, run and lift weights to maintain their edge. But government regulations are requiring that their headquarters on the beach be made handicapped-accessible, even though the only people who ever use the two-story building are the lifeguards. Now to the meat of the post I am responding to. What you describe is exactly how 3rd world countries operate. Everybody provides all that should be collective services for themselves... if they can afford it. The vast, vast majority can't, so the country descends into squalor. All the infrastructure and services that have made the US great have taken generation after generation of grateful citizens to build. You want to tear it apart in a fit of cheapskate, tea party pique. You want 3rd world taxes and services. Let me tell ya Jorj, you would be a peasant in the world you're looking for. Bless your lucky accident of birth you were born in a country that allows you to focus on your limited skills. And all you do is run her down. You hate America folks are depressing.
