I'm with the Coast Guard on this one.

After testing the largest skimmer in the world (Taiwan's A Whale) in the Gulf they said that it performed less well then the smaller more nimble boats at at skimming up under these SPECIFIC Gulf conditions (currents, winds, specific characteristics of the fairly light grade oil, typical pattern of dispersal, etc.)

Not to say that results might not be different somewhere else under different conditions....
