My first thought is that you may not know we are in a bear market until half of the decline has already occured. Maybe you should re-phrase your question to: "Would you hold on to your core stocks after they have declined 15 to 30%? Assuming that I am smart enough and can act fast enough to adjust my portfolio, I will sell my equity mutual funds and my largest stock holdings (i.e., I will sell the stocks that I have the most money in). I do have a list of stocks that I have set aside for dollar-cost-averaging over the long term (via DRIPs). If we get into a bear market, I will continue to dollar cost average into these issues. I felt that the bull market was very good too me and that some lower risk investments like muni's were more prudent in this overvalued environment. >> what stocks would be the first ones that you would short at this time Right now I am shorting the SPX via SPY. I wish I was shorting the SOX but then it's always easy to see things once once they happen. I am not all that agressive and I am using fairly tight stops. Once the bear is confirmed I will get more agressive.
