You mean its larger than in the past? Maybe, maybe not.

There are reasons why that might be true. The returns to technical education have been growing as opposed to unskilled labor.

BTW, I'll add that allowing massive illegal immigration of low-skilled workers has the effect of lowering the earnings of low-skilled workers and making the economic divide greater.
