Again it's good to remember context is everything.

While reading THE GOOD SOLDIERS as I am now I often find that
when one of our men burns up, another loses limbs and another has lost eye sight and ability to talk I can feel the rage in me rising up and I want to do something to stop this slaughter.

But what.

I who consider myself a pacifist I can see where that would go out of the window if I lost a buddy and saw others die.
I would be angry and do stupid things like our troops are doing now. It's HUMAN NATURE as it is to start using words that
out of context sound terribly discriminatory but at the time
appropriate.

Thanks for the WOW

ML

I understand what you are saying, but it's only a reason. From a politician, who is a role model, I can't accept it as an excuse. If he wants to cling to his racist vocab, he can stay out of public office.

<<<In defense of McCain (shudder), the word "gook" was almost universally used by in country GIs to describe not the Vietnamese people but rather the guys who were shooting at Americans.>>>

It was not that long ago when I lived in a period when the "N" word was universally used with no thought of real malice. I am pretty sure it is still used in the homes of a lot of decent people.

I can understand it if you go out with the guys and talk that way in bars and other private get togethers.

But don't you think that if you are running for president that your thinking process has to be engaged?
