Reply to private post, a "P 38" or "John Wayne" can opener came with all "K-Rations." I think military meals come in mostly air tight bags now.

And when I was in uniform and wearing dog tags, the P 38 was also on that chain.

AND, the term "P 38 Wound" came from a P 38 that had been used too much and inadvertently opened.

I was messing in the garage a couple weeks ago and stumbled on on to mine along with the dog tags and a couple Zippos. Haven't replaced the flint since Korea. Still a small spark. I don't know if lighter fuild is still sold.
