making the pwb has environmental issues cpq doesn't want. they just perform the SMT and they were the first high volume smt in pc industry....notice word high volume before you mention IBM and HP. I went to their SMT..it was a laugh. now cpq is the highest smt pc mfg'er. smt mfg'ig would require dell to finally deploy an ERP becuase it has allot of components that would have to be there before order could start. you can start pc's short parts...not smt. read up on smt capacity shortage if you don't beleive it's there. I'm on a project team of smt mfg'ers...we certainly know that our prodcuts are in demand....SMT and the evolutions of SMT. BTW, does compaq fab the PWB's as well, that is, the fiberglass bare-board without components?....real funny meathead<gg> you know they don't
