Re: [Republicans] keep saying they are not racist but there is one racist incident afer another involving them. They are a party more suited for the 19th century instead of the 21st.

Well, I'm afraid that race relations will increasingly take centre stage in the 21st century --as far as the US is concerned. The reason for such a trend is clear enough: US demographics and the impending minoritization of non-Hispanic whites... In the 1980s and 1990s, the most serious challenge to moderate Repubs came from the Jesus freaks --the so-called Christian Coalition, Pat Robertson, the late Jerry Falwell, etc. which eventually led to the election of born-again GW Bush.

Nowadays, it's the grassroots Tea Party, that focuses more on fiscal/social policy than on religious bigotry. Anyway, I expect that the GOP will have no other choice than picking a black running mate for the next presidential race, if only to defuse the accusation of racism... In 2012, US voters might no longer be eager to elect a black President --but a black Veep?
