Good points, Wayne. Recall that Madoff committed the same offense on a shorter time scale. He went to prison for life, as he deserved to. Actually, I think fraud and theft of that magnitude deserve a sentence of capital punishment because of the number of lives that are essentially destroyed. Likewise, I think that everyone in the government who has knowingly defrauded taxpayers in this 75-year-old hoax should face the same sentence; capital punishment! Their crimes have caused tremendous misery and human suffering on a national scale as they repeatedly rob millions of workers at gunpoint each payday to finance their own lives of luxury!

Well if your personal definition of "default" (which most folks would take to mean: 'refuse to pay') includes such things as gradually extending the retirement age (from 65 to 66 now, and before long will automatically go to 67) then I guess that's what you are gonna call it. But "ENDING THE PROGRAM in 1983" (which you just called for) would have SURELY met ANYONE'S DEFINITION FOR THE WORD "DEFAULT" I'm guessing. <g>
