I completely agree. The entire social security system is replete with confusing and contrary technicalities and other inconsistencies, just like the U.S. tax code and everything else the government touches!

Virtually everything the government does is an outrage!

Like I have said many times, each night before I go to sleep, I wonder what previously unimaginable horrors await us tomorrow. What new tyranny will the government implement tomorrow? Which of our freedoms, liberties, and privacies will they take from us at gunpoint? What unconstitutional BS will they ram through Congress against the overwhelming outcry of voters?

The aspect that angers me the most, Wayne, is observing how these Washington assholes are living better than royalty on MY money, and seeing them flaunting their lavish lifestyles in our faces. THEY ARE PUBLIC SERVANTS!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong... I live a good life with ample resources. I do not want for many things, but that's not the point!

I understand your frustrations; however, the insurance gamble is not a dollar-in and dollar-out game. It's a gamble -- some win some loose -- some live some die -- just like life insurance and health insurance. Some folks are never ill while others may spend years in a hospital -- both pay for INSURANCE for financial assurance against feared improbability.

The problem with SS, and other government-back self-managed investment programs (including the Bush plan), is that they fail to consider that there will be investment winners and losers. And guess who will be picking up the tab for the losers?

It is the government, not the insurance concept, that is screwing us.
