I think it would be upsetting. It's not that someone shouldn't consider it, but that there will be some heat from somewhere. People shouldn't have to take it from family or close friends, though, and... it sounds like it started or at least picked up with Obama's election... but that means it was there all along. however, polite silence goes a ways.

it if was me? saying something at the moment is this or that. but talk about it afterwards between selves and decide what to do... as in, family and friends talk it out with the 2 of you, or you move on, the 2 of you, to finer places to be. If someone isn't willing to walk away from people when they treat you, and your relationship, that way, imo they ain't worth being around. just my opinion.
