They may be the ones taking up the jobs created leaving the unemployment numbers stagnant. I am including an interesting article on why businesses are not hiring. according to theis UPI report, it is the consumer that needs to provide the lead. If that is the case, then I expect the consumer purcheses to pick up with back to school in Spt. and lasting into January 1st with all the seasonal buying (Halloween/T'giving/C'mas). ============================ U.S. businesses wary of hiring, investment 9:00 pm ET 08/20/2010 - UPI Business executives in the Chicago area say they are reluctant to add employees or invest in equipment because of U.S. consumers' changed spending habits. Many executives told The Washington Post they are being cautious because the public appears to be cautious, giving that as the reason why unemployment remains high while the United States emerges from recession. They predicted U.S. residents, at least many of them, will be slow to return to high spending and free use of credit. Bill Larsen, president of Larsen Packaging Products in Glendale, Ill., said his customers no longer make long-term purchases. He said the company sells to a broad range of other businesses, supplying boxes and packing material. "They don't know what they're going to need and when they're going to need it," he said. Executives said spending on business equipment during the first half of 2010 was up significantly because companies were making delayed purchases of replacement equipment, not because they were increasing their capacity. Robert W. Crawford Jr., founder of Brook Furniture Rental, said he has cut staff even though business is up. Most of his investment is aimed at reducing the workforce.
