This is going beyond the scope of why I read SI but I will say that I feel that tolerance should not be not just what a vocal minority wants but respecting the customs and traditions of the silent majority. I attended public schools and we said the pledge of allegiance and sang America the beautiful in grammar school. We never said any prayers. I think some on the extreme left don't want the word God even mentioned so they object to the pledge of allegiance. My town has a nativity display under the right to assemble and protest- the scene must have a person present 24/7. I try to avoid controversy and respect the rights of others.
