TJ., from my recollections in high school and even University the teacher or the lecturer can make a huge difference in sparking the pupils interests and attention.

First he must be smart, secondly know and understand teh meaning of the material and most important to have the desire to transfer his knowledge to others in a interesting and entertaining way.

One of the best examples are the Bible lessons which are teached in Israel high school - IMHO the Bible is not exactly a book that tries to instill religion even that the changes made are trying to do so. It is a book about human nature and the principles of our society and philosophy IMHO it is the best book to prepare one for life (just try to understand why what GOD said - was inserted this way by the writer and do not take what GOD said as an axiom).

The book of Job, Kings,I and II Book of Solomon, the Song of Songs, The stories of Abraham Isaac Jacobs etc., are all stories of the intricate family life envy rivalry rewards

But very few Bible teacher prepare the pupil for the life ahead of them all they do is for the pupil to remember the verses - not to understand the meaning of those verses - how stupid

and this is true for every discipline which is teached in schools
