You are right we need the immediate actions, also. and what we do with infrastructure puts people to work. but let's focus it. people talk about Ike and the freeways, but my mother the other day was talking about an uncle of hers who talked often of the Farm to Market roads as the greatest thing to ever happen. fed project, btw. and they both put people to work, and they opened up the world for rural people not simply to get to town, but to get their product to town by means far far far better than before. the cascading effect was tremendous.

like with India now dealing with its rural farming areas... how to open up things for people there, how to get their product to cities better, how to get services to them better, etc.

look at a map of Louisiana or Mississippi and they are crisscrossed by few major roads but very crisscrossed with what are still called Farm to Market roads.
