U.S. border guards....are always professional

The closest I ever came to the pokey involved one of them over thirty years ago. I crossed at a remote and lonely station riding a BMW that'd occasionally get a stuck float in the carb that'd drizzle gas. Happened at Customs, so I pushed the bike a few feet to get off the tarmac while I fixed the damned thing. A snotty agent screamed at me to get right on back.

Had a quicker temper in those days. Guess I was lucky to be separated by a few yards; gave me time to reconsider first intent.

When I lived near the Canadian border years ago we would go up to Creston just for fun. The bars were neat; they brought you beer before you even sat down. Women had to come in a separate door, though.

On Sunday, Canadians came down to drink beer in USA, so our bars served beer in quart bottles.

No, they are not! We were driving to Alaska last summer, traveling with a friend, each in our own trailers. At the Sumas border crossing, going north mind you, two US border guys came out and harassed our friend because he was traveling alone! (He is a widower.) We were shocked and ashamed of these guys.

I was advised by CBSA they would harass me for the rest of my life, I brought that up in court and they haven't. I will say one thing about U.S. border guards and that is they are always professional. Have never encountered angry, mean or stupid agents.

Back in the '70s, it used to be the US Customs guys who gave me a hard time crossing back into the US from Canada. Getting into Canada was a breeze. This past Memorial weekend, I was headed for Osoyoos, BC, with a group of 7 friends on our bikes. I was in the lead. We crossed at a little border crossing at Midway, BC. This crossing is only open between 9 and 5. We got there around 4:30. I got a major grilling that included a question why I was crossing at that particular spot. "Well, it's because I met my friends in Wilbur, down the road 80 miles and we also like riding these roads." He was probably just upset that he couldn't coast into closing time without having to clear a bunch of motorcyclists who showed up at the last minute.
