This is evidence of the incisive brilliance of Eisenhower's farewell speech, warning of the military-industrial incestuous
relationship. The EFV's and the V-22's are financial sinkholes with lives of their own. But the thought of eliminating the Corps is repulsive. In early 1983 we had to travel from Pasadena to Chula Vista on early morning business. The night before, the local news had reported that the Marines would be conducting the largest war game assault ever at Pendleton. It was occurring as we drove by. I pulled over for an hour or so because it was so awesome. The landing craft, LCAC inflatables, armored vehicles, with fighters streaking overhead, and warships on the horizon could only make me grateful I wasn't facing that as an enemy.
