<<'So our housing prices are just now moving through old highs. Our rents are to the moon'

That is incredible...worth watching

and running out of land anywhere in Alaska is ironic.. funny the environmental movement must really have had their hands in the pot everywhere up there..also must be very high payed union workers to afford such expensive accomodations...where is Palin when you really need her?>

Palin quit, the job was over her head.

I am in Southeast Alaska and unless you are in front of a receding glacier (glacial morain) most of the land is wetlands, swamp, mountains, bedrock, cliffs and without sewer.

But we were also smart and in the 70's we created a huge government program, The Alaska Permanent fund, fighting the right wing Republicans and oil companies all the way (they hate big government programs).

We liberal dems had control of the house and insisted that 25% of all of the state oil revenue be put in a permanent fund for the kids.

We even got it put in the consitution, so no one could raid it or kill it. Today we have almost 50 billion in it and the revenue pays for all of our social services (we pay no state taxes at all) and everyone gets a check for about $1,500 every year.

Any state could have done that, but didn't like big government I guess? I hear they can't manage anything. Our big government has done pretty well.

We also have strong unions up here, so people get a fair wage.

"and running out of land anywhere in Alaska is ironic"

I think as far as Alaska goes, what he means is they're running out of land with utilities where they can huddle together and keep warm!

Juneau looks kinda land cramped, between the mountains and the sea..

Kinda looks like it's just waiting for the remains of the tidal wave that will sweep up the inland passage and wash it off the mountain..
