Resolute Energy (REN) -- right on que, GeoResources has spudded the first well in their Bakken JV with REN (each has 47.5% W.I.). I understand the well was spudded on 9/25. The area in which they are drilling has been virtually already been de-risked thanks to some drilling near to the south by Oasis.

From here to the foreseeable future there will be at least one Bakken rig (2 once the Marathon play starts), with REN's name on it. Hopefully this news will light a fire under the stock.

GEOI. A few notes that I have:

1. Nice success for Joe Dancy who has several or more times mentioned/recommended this stock here and elsewhere on SI.

2. In future I'll try to be attuned to catch what GEOI's Mr. Lodzinski's next public venture might be. From your 2010 posted article:

"GeoResources is the latest entity run by Frank Lodzinski, a serial moneymaker in the oil patch. Three past ventures have made initial investors three to 10 times their money. The biggest score appears to have been the sale of Texoil to Ocean Energy (a company that later merged with Devon Energy (NYSE: DVN) to form the country's largest independent E&P). That's a great way to secure shareholder loyalty, as demonstrated by the fact that the Vlasic family (of Vlasic Pickles fame) has backed five different Lodzinski vehicles since 1988."

3. The stock of the acquiring company, Halcyon, seems also to be up strongly this morning. That an acquirer company stock is up on a buyout announcement strikes me as unusual.

I may continue to hold my GEOI shares for the conversion to cash and HK shares.
