burma is supported by china for self defense reasons aplenty, as team usa always and everywhere tries so diligently to make troubkle for the diligent, family valued, and savings oriented chinese. I've never said anything differently. Our history has not always been the most enlightened. However, we have, for the most part (and certainly increasingly so), endeavored to require steps towards political openness in those authoritarian countries we're aided. Of course, we've not always been successful, or we're permitted our business and security interests to override the longer term interest of freedom and democratic reform (accountable government). But don't even try and convince us that the apparachiks in control of China's military and government are not Machiavellian in their political and military agendas. The people of Darfur are asking why China is "making trouble" for their destitute society. The people of Burma are asking why China is "making trouble" for them by supporting their military dictatorship. The people of Cambodia STILL ask why China would create and support a regime that would kill millions of Cambodians. And so far I can see, we're not the ones making trouble for the Chinese people. In fact, were it not for US markets, one would have to wonder where the Chinese would sell their products. That's actually worked to the detriment of "diligent, family valued, and hard working" Americans. And increasingly, Americans are coming around to understanding the mercantilist policies of the Chinese government. Hawk
