<<<I see this as representing a level of real grit that few people have and I find it inspiring. >>>

You think she should be a role model?

Compare to other struggling woman trying to find meaning in life, does she stands out in some positively meaningful way ?

"...but I'm totally intrigued by the Christine O'Donnell situation and find it oddly affirming of what it means to be an American."

Kind of like Bernie Madoff, etc...He never gave up either until he was caught.

She is charming, great smile and fun to watch on Bill Maher. But, that is all, IMHO. I think you can have better role models.

When one throws one's hat into the ring that is justification for all sorts of scrutiny. I think she is a tough cookie and do not worry about her dignity and perseverance.

Raising one million dollars the first day is indicative that she has support.

>> Where else but America could a former teen witch through sheer grit and perseverance establish herself as a contender for a Senate seat?<<

It could happen in all kinds of other places. Incompetents, fools, and lunatics can be elected to office pretty much everywhere democracy is practiced. It's just a question of the right circumstances coming together.

O'Donnell's willingness to endure public scrutiny may be closely related to the fact that she doesn't know she's not qualified to be in the Senate. I believe it springs from being delusional.
