Republicans did a George Wallace and Strom thurmond trip today with DADT. I just hope the friends and family of Snow, Collins and other's inclined toward descrimination point out what bigots they both are.

I'm reserving judgement on Miller's ag subsidies until I see more details, but one thing is obvious. These inexperienced candidates who vault into the big leagues tend to be unvetted types who don't understand the rules. You have to define yourself, and you have to get all the bad stuff out in the open and put your best spin on it. Otherwise your opponents will be glad to define you.

Murkowski has her negatives, but they're all out in the open. By contrast, the voters barely know Miller and there's plenty of odd stuff when you start digging. Like the time in 2008 where he quit the Republican party in a snit after his attempt to vote out the party chairman failed. This helps explain why Lisa is poaching a small but significant chunk of his Republican voters...

Toward the end of the convention when it was apparent his fireworks had fizzled, in what can only be described as paranoid and bizarre, a security detail - yes, pretend Secret Service suits with Aviator glasses and earpieces - showed up to flank and apparently protect the silly, self-important Joe from a bunch of mostly middle-age Republican delegates who had voted against him and were now genuinely embarrassed for him. The following Monday the sulking, delusional drama queen quit the Republican Party.
