There is no particular honor in merely whipping a weaker force. There is honor in standing against unjust brutal authority, whether that unjust authority is represented by a person, a state, or some ideology...religious or otherwise. The original cause to go to war against Al Qaeda and the Taliban form of government, which both harbored and endorsed the Al Qaeda mission, was worthy. Over time, greater complexity has seeped in, as we have villagers organizing to resist an invading force which, by reputation at least, tosses grenades at their brethren for sport. Depending on your perspective there should still be cause for honor, but now the big picture has changed. The Taliban has also morphed somewhat. The villager perspective now also has cause to claim honor in standing against injustice, whether they get labeled Taliban supporters or not. With these changes, America has an obligation to modify it's agenda in Afghanistan.
