Both parties are completely out of touch with the electorate and continue to pursue policies which are transparently anti-American, at least in terms of the America most of us learned about in school. Did anyone ever dream that the FBI would be busting anti-war demonstrators as terrorists? Seriously?

With the crowd thinking that a stalemated Congress is a good thing, the big surprise this year may be that government is needed to stimulate the economy and it just isn't going to happen. The Tea Party will celebrate, but it's hard to see anyone else doing so. And, I suspect the tea-partiers will suddenly realize how bad things are when that yawning gap between supply and collapsing aggregate demand finds its way to their homes. Remember, one of the reasons Hoover is seen so badly in history books is his failure to stimulate.

I get around all the boroughs of NYC (except Staten Island) and Long Island during the course of the week and what I am seeing is a lot more small businesses closing up on Main Street. On the other hand, I'm getting a tremendous increase in business in the Garden City, Long Island area, which has one of the highest ratios of investment bankers to population (if not the highest) in the US.
