It still happens now. Most male movie stars are gay. When I moved to LA, I was shocked to find that out. Most of them are married or have long time girlfriends. It was said that when Neil Partrick Harris came out, he gave up a career in movies. The best he could do was television. And a few years ago, even television was off limits. The best openly gay actors could do was theater. This country has a long history of deception and covering up what are perceived as boils. Very sad. BTW according to wiki, Brown got married right around the time he ran for AG of CA in 2005.
