What if IBM decides not to sell heads at all? Why not sell drives to PC makers directly? It now seems not safe to put money into any of those HD companies, except IBM.

Peter, take a look at the power draw figures for the new IBM
drives. At up to 25W (typ.) these are not drives for your average desktop case. In the 6-9MB range, Quantum and WDC both offer similar performance with less than half the heat.

Doesn't make a lot of sense ot me. Take a poll on this thread. I just bought a WD 3.1 G drive for $199 to go with the 1.2G WD drive I already have. Why would I want to spend $275 for a 3.2 G IBM drive or for that matter anything higher. I do a lot of analysis but do not need more than 3.2G. I think that IBM has laid another egg?
