I post in quite a few places where a lot of liberals post.

And I have to say, the tone of the left is getting awfully nasty.

I think they're just a little bit concerned about the upcoming election. I don't think they're sleeping well, or something. Seems they're all on edge these days.

Sharpen your pencil and tell us how long those panels will take to generate actual savings in excess of the cost to install?

Generally speaking today a solar installation will pay for itself in 20 or so years, 5 years ago it would have taken 30+ years...therein lies the point people like you and inode miss completely...the progression of technology is inexorable...with encouragement and investments ten years from now the technology and economy of scale will make the cost even more accessible. Five years ago a solar Watt cost an average of $10+...now the same watt can be bought for half as much...five years from now it will cost half again. When a solar watt comes to cost around a $1 a 5KW solar system will cost as much as your AC heat pump system...at that point it becomes just another home appliance.

I_node's post seemed to speak to the unsightly nature of a solar system..but even that's non-sense, since we are getting to the point where solar power generation is built into roofing shingles...one hardly knows that they are there...and all of that says nothing about the ecofriendly nature of the power nor the point that every watt of solar power is one for which we don't need to burn coal or oil.

Which is the point I made...conservatives resist progress...it seems to be part of their makeup to be suspicious and blockheaded in nature...archie bunker like.
