You know, taking the really LONG view, I think what's happening is the correction of 5% of the world's population (us) consuming 25% of the world's resources.

That obviously wasn't fair, and it's going to suck for a REALLY long time, as far as we're concerned. Our standard of living will decline sharply as China and India get theirs, followed by Africa, Latin America etc.

It may be that we were the fortunate people that got to live in a special, uniquely wealthy time for American individuals.
