Geoff - I would still like to see some good analysis,
backed by stats, as to WHY Dell needs target first time
buyers. There's not enough money in the low end for
them and they don't have nearly the market share they
could have in the high margin corporate sector
(94% of that market is still available).

There is not much profit in the <1000 PC market.
CPQ had ~ 6M profit last quarter with 70% market share
on revenues of close to 200 M.

Some analysts are disputing even that 6m profit because they
claim that CPQ is not properly allocating its overhead and service
charges.

Unless the low cost PC actually grows the market it is not worthwhile
except as a tactical retail channel weapon. DELL is not in either market.

Even though I do not approve of the term "shmipping cost" in a thread of this caliber, I agree that Dell will go sub-1000 soon. Any thoughts on whether NSM will be the one?
