MD is hardly ever used as data storage. As far as I know, it is only used for music storage. Thus, they have been always compressed and I believe its compressed capacity rivals that of CDs. Thus, MDs are released in addition to CDs.

The price was $10 a disk last time I checked which was a year ago. Does someone have a more recent price?

CompactFlash cannot compete with MD in terms of byte/price. It is analogous to DRAM vs Hard Disk storage competition.

In serious recording applications, Iomega already has a good grip with its Jazz for large storage requirements and Zip for smaller ones. CompactFlash's beauty is in its size and ruggedness. I think.
