Michael,

Thanks for synopsis (and your analysis) of the conference.

Out of curiosity, did you see any other investment firms taking interest in WIND other than the usual suspects (UBS, DMG, Wessols Arnold, and H&Q)? I wonder if any firms are considering initiating coverage on WIND. On the flipside, was Pilgrim and Twentieth Century there? Last time I checked Pilgrim was the largest shareholder.

Mike

Michael, thanks for a fabulous report. A few comments:

1. I was happy to see Abelmann is paranoid about customer service. It reminded me of a post on this thread about a year ago from a WIND customer who complained about the company's response time.

2. Regarding the NC: Is WIND now out of the picture? Can someone remind me why we ever thought WIND was in the picture? Oracle appears to be spending big money advertising the NC in the consumer market. Are they doing this even though they're not ready to ship the product? Does the Oracle/Apple relationship have any impact here?

3. Why do you suppose it's taking so long for that third company to announce the I20 IxWorks distribution deal? It seems like we've been hearing about this "unannounced deal" for about six months now.

Michael:

Great post detailing the results of the AEA conference. I'm sure I speak for everyone on the thread when I express my appreciation for such a detailed account. Just a few questions.

1. Like Richard, I am a bit confused by your Oracle comments. I understood that WIND's operating system was not currently in use by NCI, but that it would be a piece of successive generations. Can you elaborate a bit more on Ron's comments?

2. Regarding Automotive, what (if any) is the royalty agreement from the current GM diesel engine deal? Also, how does Siemens currently pay WIND for their 16 bit chips that are shipped to the automotive industry?

3. Regarding Qualcomm, Allen Benn has indicated in the past that synergy with the relay station equipment should give WIND a leg up when it comes to RTOS on the handset. Could you elaborate a bit more on Ron's comments regarding Qualcomm?

4. What is WIND's current share of 32 bit embedded market? Are there any indications that the transition from roll your own to commercial RTOS is occurring faster in this market than in the more mature ones?

5. Did you get any indication regarding Darryl's question concerning the DEC semi takeover by INTEL? Will INTEL now migrate much of their i2o plans to StrongARM, and if so, will they carry the same royalty schedule?

Thanks again for your report. Next time, I'll have to join you.

Ciao,

Jason Cogan
