Fergusson is an economic historian and has written some excellent books as such. And if you think Fergusson can't stay on the same stage as Krugman to debate contemporary economics, then you haven't watched their debates.

My own guess is that while your guy has a PhD in economics, he can't hold even a small candle to Fergusson. Let alone Krugman.

Perhaps someone should disabuse you of the notion that receiving a PhD in a field makes someone equally competent to others in that field. Well, just to make that statement a bit stronger, if you think receiving a PhD in an academic field assures you that person is competent in that field, you don't know academia.

In fact, if you believe that, I've got the proverbial bridge to sell you.
