MD,

Waves come in groups...

California now has a Democratic Party Gov and a union controlled legislature. Unemployment is 12.4% (August public data).

Florida went the other way. Their unemployment is also 12.4% (Aug).

One will turn pro-business/growth, one will view themselves as pro-education/worker.

In two years lets see where they stand.

John

The Republicans have to have the guts to understand they are not going to get more than 20% of the Union vote no matter what they do. So run your campaign on a "them vs us" basis. "Are you an eater or a server of the state?"

I am not sure how much better you could expect it to be. If you think about it the house was a massacre and with the Senate only 1/3 of country produced a 5 or 6 member increase. If the entire senate ran this election and you extropolated the Reps would have won between 15 and 18 seats and hold 56 to 58 seats.

At any rate the Reps claim to have learned their lesson. Now we will see how true that is. I am ready to ditch them if they don't get right and quick.

The CA voter decided that 12.4% unemployment was not an issue and voted for Brown and Boxer. The Nevadans decided 14.6% unemployment was not a problem and elected Reid again.

Dumb and dumber.

But the CA voters take the cake. They vote down the Prop which would enhance and support the state's park system and then vote for the Arnold GW Prop. It makes no sense except that one Prop(Parks) was presented as an $18 annual cost to the voter for their Yes vote. The other was essentially was mistakenly cast as an anti-pollution Prop to vote on even though it will be ultimately cost the CA resident big time.

The best news this morning was that our local college who spent 1.3m on glossy flyers, consultants and retired politicians to promote their Prop which was designed to give them absolute autonomy and freedom from city zoning rules for any and all decisions regarding construction, traffic and overall impact on the local residents went down. The negative impact on the local community was seen as huge. Most of their expansion plans had already been approved by the City.

The citizens gathered 40K, posted signs and wrote letters to local papers on why they oppose the college's "end around' city law.

I'll say it again. Whitman and Fiorina lost because they were fearful of taking on the illegal issue and opposed
Governor Brewer's AZ decision. Unfortunate.

Governor Christie has shown the republicans an election model which works. Now, the question is: Will the Karl Roves' et.al. think it an approach worth using? Because it is clearly different(and superior to) Compassionate Conservative.

I worry about your points as well.

I suppose it's really a process. We are about to find out if the Tea Party movement is really viable or pardon the term..."a fart in the wind" that gets co-opted in the nuts and bolts of actual political leadership.

Krauthammer made an interesting point that winning the House and having "functional" control of the Senate is an advantage for 2012, as it will be important to not be branded with ownership of the current mess.

I'm cautiously optimistic...but I'm still stocking up on rice n beans, ammo and gold.
