It is your view which I labeled nanny statism. I do not, however, consider your view to be valid. Your words ...("The people don't know what they are talking about") is the perspective of nanny statism and it is your view alone that I was referring to. A viewpoint which I have already discounted as invalid.

My view is not nanny statism as you suggest. Besides, that's not what a nanny state is.

My view is based on the fact that a substantive majority elected Obama and many Dems to Congress two years ago. Obama made very clear what his agenda was and went about putting it into practice. Two years later, Americans are setting out to punish both the Dems and Obama. Why? Either they are acting emotionally because of the recession, or they never understood his platform when he ran two years ago? Take your pick.

Either way,the American electorate is behaving either like ruly children, or like the uninformed. I tend to think its both.

A nanny state perspective is one in which the people are incapable of knowing what is good for them so the state must take on that role.

That's your definition; not the one that's in common usage. And its why I keep telling you to do more research. This is a common practice with you.....you have a snippet of info and you run with it like you are the master when you are not:

"The nanny state is in opposition with the constable state, which makes only policy and security. The welfare state (or nanny state) means the State in its role of social protection, as distinguished from the state policeman, confined to functions of government (police, army, justice). Social protection includes social security ( insurance system), and social action and social assistance (welfare system). It means the system of compensation by the government, of citizens against the vagaries of life (such as unemployment, illness, accidents, old age, death of a parent for a minor, etc.).. This is to ensure a minimum of resources and access to basic needs (education, water, food, sanitation) to all citizens off disaster, war or natural disaster (which they are civil security). The objectives of social protection provided by the welfare state are provided by social policies. There are typically two main models of welfare state: the Bismarckian welfare state, founded in Germany by the laws of 1880 and the Beveridge welfare state, born in the United Kingdom after the Second World War. The first is based on the mechanism of social insurance, in which the services are the counterpart contributions (there is prevention of health risks, old age and accident for the assets only), while the second, funded by taxes, provides uniform benefits to all members of society, providing benefits not usually low enough that the minimum [1]. The French welfare state combines these two aspects. Besides the objective of insurance against risks and hazards of life, the welfare state often has a goal of social justice through some complex mechanisms of redistribution of wealth."
