I don't want the RINOs to be an important power in the Republican party, but they are useful at the margin if there are not too many of them, and if the alternative was a liberal Democrat.

The RINOs can get you over the top in terms of resisting a new Democratic initiative, or even passing some of the less controversial Republican initatives.

Look at what was passed by the Democrats. Their was "compromise" but the compromise was between radical and moderate Dems, the Republicans where shut out. I'd prefer to have the compromise be between solid conservatives, and RINOs, and have the liberal Dems be mostly shut out, but you don't get there just relying on solid conservatives, too many places just don't support them. They can be the most powerful force if things go right, but they need to pick up some mild Republicans and RINOs, or occasionally some moderate Dems, we aren't going to get 60, and probably not even 50, solid Republican senators. If Scott Brown had held the seat a year before he was sworn in, and esp. if some other Dems where replaced by people like him, than we wouldn't have gotten the Pelosicare debacle.

Note, I'm only seeking people like him in places like MA, where you can't get anything else. If there is a serious chance to elect a real conservative, I wouldn't support the RINO. I care about the ideas, not the party label, I don't want a bunch of "progressive" ideas coming from congressional leadership with an R after their name on the ballot, I just think at the margin having a few people like Scott Brown rather than liberal Dems, is beneficial.
