Jim,

RE: DLT Transfer Rates

DLT 7000
Sustained Transfer Rate 5.0 MB/Second
Peak Transfer Rate 20MB/Second

DLT 4000
Sustained Txfr Rate 1.5 MB/Second
Peak Txfr Rate 10 MB/Second

DLT 2000XT
Sustained 1.25 MB/Second
Peak 5 MB/Second

Jim, Steve Wagner already posted the answer to your question.
I found a few useful things on the Quantum site...

quantum.com

quantum.com
<snip>
This feature enables Quantum's DLT products to find any file in a
20-gigabyte capacity tape in an average of 45 seconds.
<snip>

quantum.com
<snip>
sustained data transfer rate of 3.0 MB per second
,
3 DLT technology outperforms 8 mm
helical scan solutions by a factor of three. In addition,
it's capacity is three times that of current
helical scan products. Further, the life of read/write
heads in a DLT tape drive is approximately five
times that of helical scan heads due to it's patented
tape path design and low tape tension - features
that minimize head and media wear.
<snip>

Knowing all this, I still don't invest better
than Jim Cramer, the trader.<G>
DD makers suffer from the the Rodney Dangerfield
syndrome, they "get no respect".

My standard Compaq Tape Device reads at 22MB/Min.

DLTs have an exceedingly fast read rate. In short, a DLT can read data faster than what the server can throw at it.
Something like 25 to 100MB/Sec.
