You state that these are all the result of religious zeal. I can't say for sure what the history of gays serving in the military is or isn't and I don't know a lot about the history of allowing abortions, but I am pretty sure that there is no country in history that defined marriage as other than between men and women. So I dispute your statement as it applies to gay marriage. As far as the NRA is concerned whether you agree or disagree with them, they promote freedom, and what religion are they anyway? "THE Aryan Nation and other hate groups are an off shoot of religious Zealots" I need more info on the basis of this statement. That has never been my impression. Nonetheless, what legislation that the Aryan nation sponsored that became law? "The way we interact with the laws for the most part comes from a religious foundation... or thinking." I don't feel that way at all and I am not a member of any church and only go to churches for weddings and funerals. I have never felt that the religious beliefs of others intrudes on my freedom. But I do find that a host of legislation supported by the left does greatly intrude on my freedom. Maybe it is what is important to us individually that shapes our views. To many people the right to own guns is very important, while probably a majority don't much care either way. The there is a minority who have what I think is a maniacal opposition to gun ownership. It seems to me that many on both the right and left have their favorite laws that restrict the freedom of others. However, liberals, to me at least, are more likely to support government intervention into our lives than conservatives. Whether you agree or disagree with that is probably largely dependent on what you deem important. lj
