...the Bible speaks against homosexuality in numerous passages and all world religions condemn it.

Given the number of virulently anti-gay, gay republicans who have been outed, ya think the guys who were writing the Bible may have been the closet Log Cabin republicans of the day?

Or is that sort of hypocrisy a modern innovation?

>>I would say that the issue of gay marriage is pretty clearly tied to religion since the Bible speaks against homosexuality in numerous passages and all world religions condemn it. <<

Some large Jewish and Christian sects accept homosexuality.

It is true that Leviticus speaks of homosexuality as an "abomination." But the same book also prohibits eating shellfish and pork, and says its OK to keep slaves. It also prescribes specific periods of time when women are to be considered "unclean" and not allowed to associate freely with others.

People seem to feel that it's OK to pick and choose which parts of Leviticus they should apply in their own lives. Or which parts to apply in telling other people how to live.

I'm sidestepping the whole argument about whether "destructive behaviors" come primarily from secular people. I don't buy it, but I'm not willing to get into an argument about it.
