It's unfortunate that our political debate today has mostly lost interest in the difference between preaching and analysis. I suspect most people posting on SI political boards wouldn't pass a basic test on differentiating between the two. But they don't seem to care either, judging by much of what I see. If we are going to build a bridge, we insist on qualified engineers who can judge stress levels and adequate design. When it comes to public policy, any kind of self-serving blather is considered a worthy part of the process, lack of rigor and discipline be damned.
