Blue, Webb, Tom .... I am a *little* surprised at timing for a split

(BTW, Blue, I assume you meant only BAANF is splitting since ORCL is in mid-30's lately).

I am no expert, but I wonder if a split to mid-30's (assuming stock does not move to $70's or $80 by first week of December) will mean more volatility to the stock? I know that at any price a move of a dollar after a split is like $2 at the old price. Of course, maybe it means less volatility. I can check, but I think there is usually a down trend in the period following a split.

I think investors are selling off portions when they have double the number of shares, but again I don't know. Extra selling will tend to send price down regardless of other factors. So maybe sell some early and look for that buying opportunity (assuming one is willing to trigger the gains). Or just look for a new entry point to accumulate.

What do you think?

It would be interesting to know how much longer PSFT braintrust intends to continue this annual splitting. Is there a point where a company can have too many shares (PSFT will be about 1/4 billion)?

One more thing ... I wonder if PSFT board thinks stock will be significantly higher by Dec 5 (the split effective date)? Do they know something? Or do they care?

Anyone seen any negative news in the ERP market the last couple of days? The whole sector (BAANF, PSFT, ORCL, SAPHY) has been taking a bit of a hit, aside from the market volitility.

I heard that Domino's Pizza has purchased PSFT's entire suite of products: HRMS, FIN, MFG, DIST. Perhaps the reason for today's nice gain?
