Markets exist with our without currency. However, functioning currencies have a way of concentrating capital and decision making, which has its benefits as well as failures. The benefits are: worthy ideas can be pursued creating new goods and services, and economies of scale makes goods and services cheaper. The failures are that we put too much trust in the investing or gambling or predictive prowess of a very few individuals. We also put too much trust that the decision makers will be acting in the interest of the shareholders, bond holders, employees, and citizens.

And you cannot deny that the generation of new funny money by central banks as we are seeing today is a very asymmetrical process.
