I agree. I think that making drugs challenging (and illegal) to obtain merely helps to push experimenters into a subculture which can encourage contempt for cultural mores and behaviors, whereas if it were legal to buy and try, and if schools informed from an early age (as they ought to be doing in re healthy eating and such, as well), then I am not sure what kids would do to rebel--but they wouldn't be meeting clandestinely with Hells Angels. :-) We've had a big kerfuffle in Canada the last few years over gun registration with the (previous) Liberal Government and supporters pressing for it (used not as a pejorative but as informational). They seem to think that if a gun is registered it will not be used to commit a crime! However, the overwhelming evidence is that most serious crimes are crimes of passion/ignorance--very often a man murdering his special other. Registration does not stop these crimes of defective passion. And you can bet the farm that the real anti-social criminal who plans crimes to commit--does not register his bloody guns! Are you sure you don't support using guns to shoot mothers who refuse to have an abortion?? Seriously, I know it is no fun being misunderstood...but it is especially galling when you know it is willful and intentional...

And here I am groaning at the fallacious equivalence of your support for gun ownership to the situation with Solon's support and advocacy for the right of a mother to have a "doctor" stick a pair of scissors into the brain-stem of a full term fetus while the act is just seconds and inches away from being prosecutable murder. You don't see a problem there? Really??? If you had advocated for the right of gun owners to shoot other people because their big toe was on your property, then you would have a fairer analogy and your levelheaded friends would have been quite right. Can you even imagine the callous disregard for life and Humanity that it would take to hold a birthing child in your hands and actually feel that child spasm in pain as you thrust a pair of forceps into it's brain-stem and feeling it's life drain away. I cannot!
