As a lurker on SI for 5-7 years, I can easily wax nostalgic for the days when any given topic might draw responses from russ, calculatedrisk, heinz, mish and the shadowstatsguy (sorry forgot your pen name.) The discursive model meant that you got a chance to have the arguments and counter-arguments, raising the value that each individual brought to the table. We were regularly assaulted by the poor manners and judgement of a few posters, easily identified by their ad hominem attacks. Got news for you guys, there are many 140+ iq posters, but very few resort to childish attacks because talent does not behave that way. Please stop with the personal argument as it destroys the board, and it shows a real lack of understanding and humility. The consumer culture supports the idea that anything given freely must be worthless, and the poor sports who screw up this board perhaps unknowingly devalue this amazing forum which has been and may again become a top tier resource. Russ, I am grateful for your return, and have been a follower of yours for a long time. b
