Zebra: I believe you are confusing two different clinical parameters; the duration of an erection following stimulation and the period of time in which a patient has the ability to have an erection.

In this referenced study, reflexogenic erections were visual stimulated and then measured using RigiScan recordings at the base and tip of the penis. Accordingly, the duration of the rigidity of 11.2 minutes for Viagra versus 1.3 minutes for placebo(base) and 7.4 minutes for Viagra versus 1.2 minutes for placebo (tip) were very impressive and indicates a very effective agent.

This study did not clearly indicate the duration of a single Viagra pill, but noted that the mean total number of erections from the diary of daily erectile activity. The mean daily number was 6.1 for Viagra as compared to 1.3 for the placebo group. Once again, very impressive numbers for Viagra. Although it is not clear from the abstract whether multiple doses were given, most likely the ability to have an erection on a single Viagra pill does lasts for several hours. Finally, the study noted that the side effects among the Viagra and the placebo group were mild and transient with no apparent differences. No visual disturbances were reported.
