IMHO, more sellers than buyers causes prices to drop. That, in turn, can cause more people to sell and add to downward pressure. Brokerage houses issues upgrades and downgrades. If you have evidence they are colluding with the "exchange insiders" you should report it to the SEC. Ever watch a MM try to hold a stock against the tide? They can do it if they are stubborn and have deep pockets. Most of the time they will go with the flow and make their bucks off the spread. I raised the INSS example because it looks very similar. Time will tell.
