"most medical euthanasia acts there are initiated by doctors with no authorization"

Garbage. Why don't you start being a bit truthful? Straighten out, already...

"In 2002, the Netherlands legalized euthanasia. Euthanasia is still a criminal offence but the law codified a twenty-year old convention of not prosecuting doctors who have committed euthanasia in specific circumstances. The Dutch Euthanasia Act states that euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide are not punishable if the attending physician acts in accordance with criteria of due care.[1] These criteria concern the patient's request, the patient's suffering (unbearable and hopeless), the information provided to the patient, the presence of reasonable alternatives, consultation of another physician and the applied method of ending life.[1] To demonstrate their compliance, the Act requires physicians to report euthanasia to a review committee"

I don't recall stating or even implying that the women in my example were not allowed to have abortions. What I was saying was that unwanted pregnancies can have a negative life-changing effect.

While I confess to avoiding religious terms where I feel they are out of context, that isn't the point. (Indeed you know from my posting history on this thread that I do discuss religion at times, and generally with respect.) You took a shot that's not quite cricket when you replaced my word "sanctity" with your broader term "value", implying that I don't value life. My distaste stems from having to point out a violation of boundaries. Trying to win or sustain an argument by distorting your interlocutor's words might play well on a political stage, but not among decent folk. Jmo.

When in our lifetimes were forced sterilizations performed in this country? As for the Netherlands, the whole topic came up because you or greg posted an article about medical policy questions in this country.
