"...(Abraham and Isaac on the mountain, Christ on the cross) are about precisely that."

There are some significant differences Jacques.

First: Abraham did not actually sacrifice Issac. In fact God stopped him and provided a substitute as a prefigurement of what He would do for Abraham's physical and spiritual descendants. Do you happen to know the location where God provided the sacrifice for Abraham? (JEHOVAH-JIREH: "The Lord will Provide.") You may find it interesting that after the first 3 chapters of Paul's letter to the Romans (where he concludes that all men are guilty and without excuse), Paul goes on to discuss God's "provision" and how it relates specifically to Abraham.

Secondly: Jesus was not killed by his Father, The Romans and the Jewish leaders were the perpetrators. Even so, He laid His life down knowingly and willingly, so there is no correlation between these events and the situation where a mother chooses to kill her own child in many cases as a simple matter of convenience.
