Dee Jay the analyst said......

Kelly also reignited concern about 3Com's exposure to Southeast Asia, disclosing in a research note that as much as a third of the 15% of total revenues the company gets from the area "could be in jeopardy."

As I read it, 5% of COMS total revenues could be at risk because of problems in Asia. It could turn into less.

As you say... "right now everyone is simply guessing."

This statement by the 3Com CEO I don't really know if I understand it.

"3Com will have an accurate measurement of U.S. Robotics inventory levels in January of 1998."

Is he referring to the all, including the two months of USR inventory stats from before the merger, or is he saying only the inventory since the merger? OR is he just not saying?

Dee Jay,
All of the "news" in the Fool story is old news. The market should have discounted this "news" long ago. The accounting piece is at least one month old, pre Asian melt down. The inventory news is old too, relative to the Coms' price drop. Coms price fall began last Thurs. In less than a week it's gone from $43 to $30. All of this on innuendo, no hard news. Will it go back up just as fast? That's the issue. I'm buying a load of Coms tomorrow. This price of $30.00 is like an early Chrismas, less than 15 times earnings. Money to made.
