Hi pass pass, I'll check the ad again, but you're right. The marketing
people usually push these things before they are ready. I saw
another post on another modem manufacturer where they said software
upgradable and he had to send it back for a firmware upgrade.

I have a 1 yr contract with my isp and that's till Mar.

Yes, my networking stocks are trashed also. Even pair caved in.
What I've been doing is rolling over my covered calls to closer
strike prices and further out in time since most of the ones that
I sold have dropped to 1/8 or 3/16.

Hi, Pass Pass, the ad implies one X2 modem = 2 shares.
56Kbps fax/modem for $56... The implication is from them putting
the X2 logo in the ad.
So it may be a marketing ploy, but as a consumer I'm not doing
anything until there's a standard - and I can't. Also, ISP's
are reluctant to upgrade - they already have a tough time
supporting the current standards, why would they want to go
nonstandard. You don't have to be a CEO to
realize that consumers and ISP's not going to eagerly buy unless
there's a standard - it
does me no good to buy an X2 modem if I can't use it.
Also, as a software engineer, I question the claims of 100%
software upgradable. There is a small chance that the standard could
cause a hardware fix. All kinds of things can go wrong - timing,
running out of flash memory, ....
