The 3 Nov issue of Forbes has a nice full-page advertisement for the '98 BMWs. The article starts out, "Performance, safety and individuality: three words that describe BMW." It expounds upon the safety aspect in a paragraph describing the Head Protection System (HPS). More importantly, a picture of the interior (complete with dummy) shows the deployed system.

I don't know if this is the first such advertisement or not. In any case, I was pretty excited to see it, especially considering the only other photo in the ad was a side shot of the 750il (captioned, "BMW's 750il offers a package of new safety features, including the Head Protection System.")

If you'd like to see it for yourself, the ad is on page 114, at the end of the "Automotive Innovation" advertising section.

On a side note, I'd like to thank everyone (particularly NO and SB) for the enlightening posts. I looked at this stock about a year ago, but didn't start a position until last week.

Yo! Jaime,

<< I think SMU should demand BMW refer to the safety devices as Tubular Structures.>>

Jaime,
I've read this thread for a while and thought your comments about BMW needed a response.

a) BMW does have airbags in the door panels
b) BMW does not acknowledge Simula as the creator of the ITS in any of its publications, so how could SMU demand anything from them??

I was involved with SMU's IPO, and have owned and followed them since then.

Have a good one.
